Can you believe 2011 is
nearly over? Neither can we! It seems like just yesterday that we said goodbye
to 2010 and welcomed in the New Year.
Many people are setting
New Year’s Resolutions, and there is one resolution we know we can help people
achieve: the resolution to get a job! Whether you’re in our region in Gadsden,
Leon or Wakulla counties or you live elsewhere in the state or nation, this Job
Resolution Guide will serve you well. Over the next week, we will present an employment
series describing the components of a strong job search in 2012:
- Self-Preparation
- Knowing where your resources are
- Self-marketing materials
- Becoming competitive
- Knowing where to look
- Capitalizing on events
- Handling employers with finesse
- Bringing it all home to secure that job
So let’s get started! What
should your job search look like get your New Year started strong?
Self-Preparation
Your job search
should begin with self-preparation. This means deciding what you want in terms
of a career and setting realistic goals.
Take the
time to reassess your values and align your career goals to determine a path
that is right for you. You can visit any WORKFORCE
plus office to speak with a Career
Consultant or to take a career assessment at no cost.
Once you’ve
decided on your career path, you must set a goal and stick to it. A realistic goal
can look like “Land interviews with 10 employers by April,” or “Gain three new
skills by December that will help me to secure the salary I require.”
Once you’ve
determined your goal, write it down and tape it on your fridge as a visual reminder.
Then share your goal with someone who will keep you accountable and committed.
“Solidifying
your goals and committing them to someone who will support you in keeping you
focused will help to ensure your success,” Kimberly A. Moore, CEO of WORKFORCE plus said. “Publicizing your goals will transform your personal network
into a support structure during your employment journey.”
Have you decided what you want for your career? What goals have you set for your job search?
